Outreach

Get Ready! and OHE have taken on outreach from a broader perspective. We are looking to offer a wide range of services to the student and families of Minnesota by engaging in meaningful partnerships. Our mission is to extend the promise of postsecondary education to all Minnesotans, especially those from historically underrepresented populations.

Outreach Minnesota is an initiative of the Get Ready program, an early intervention and college awareness program. Your students will learn about setting goals for higher levels of achievement. They will also gain a greater understanding of career opportunities, reasons to attend college, ways to pay for college and higher education opportunities. Through this outreach effort, you will have access to the tools that will help you show students a path to a bright future and will allow the agency to better serve the state by providing a wider variety of resources to more specifically address college and career readiness across all demographic sectors.

Our new outreach program seeks to partner with School Districts, Charter Schools, Community organizations and Faith-based organizations to provide a two generation approach to resolving the disparities in college access and attainment. Our outreach will provide age appropriate college and career preparatory programing, professional development, training and technical assistance and retention interventions to its partners in an effort to ensure college and career readiness for Minnesota's students and families.

We strive to accomplish our mission through using shared data resources to target partners serving similar populations with a high percentage of students of color, low percentage of college enrollment, and low graduation rates compared to the state averages. We believe that the combination of these indicators will give us the opportunity to have a broader impact on a diverse cross-section of the state's population.

In our effort to support the Governor's statewide 70% by 2025 attainment goal, we aim to provide Minnesota students and families with tools to become college and career ready.

We are prepared to work with our Outreach MN partner to offer the following services:

  • Get Ready Curriculum
  • Get Ready Training and Technical Assistance
  • Parent Engagement Events
  • OHE Suite of Publications
  • College Knowledge Presentations
  • FAFSA Completion Assistance

Outreach partner will also be invited to take part in initiatives such as:

  • College Vision
  • Summer Nudging
  • National College Signing Day
  • College Knowledge Month

How to Apply

To request an application, please email Marcio.thompson@state.mn.us.

Once your organization, school or classroom is accepted into the program, the Get Ready materials will be sent to you. A brief orientation training covering site responsibilities and opportunities will be scheduled with staff prior to implementation.

How and When to Use Outreach Materials

Because it may be difficult to find time during class to engage students in this early college-awareness curriculum, some participants use the curriculum at other times:

  • During an after-school program
  • As a component of community programs
  • During advisory/homeroom
  • During breakfast or lunch club
  • During summer school

What outreach partners Receive

Educators receive a comprehensive curriculum, which includes all the necessary student workbooks to implement the program:

  • What Will I Be: Teaches students about goal setting and self-esteem, and ties skills and interests to possible career choices.
  • Great College Mystery: Helps students explore college types and careers and introduces them to high school and financial aid concepts
  • Financing Your Future: Guides students through basic financial concepts and helps them understand how to save and pay for college.
  • Within My Reach (formerly Future Choices): Helps students explore interests and talents, relate those to possible careers options and discover how their work in high school relates to achieving their college dreams.

Participants also receive various supplemental resources such as teaching guides and may be eligible to receive:

  • Presentations for students and parents on topics related to college planning
