Goals

Institute Goals:

- Understand the process of writing a short story - Learn how to research, outline, and write based on the dramatic structure - Develop a passion for reading and writing - Edit and revise story based on feedback - Illustrate your story (by hand or electronically) - Leave camp with a printed and bound copy of your work - Practice reading out loud - Surround yourself with other students that have the same amount of experience that you do


Activities

The goal of the Junior Summer Speech Institute is to get students excited about reading and writing in an educational, fun, and non-threatening environment. Students will learn the basics of story development while engaging in daily vocal warm-ups, skills workshops, individual revision sessions with Jr. High teachers, and Gustavus value sessions.
