Governor Tim Pawlenty's 2006-2007 budget proposal released January 25 calls for an approximate 8.4 percent increase in funding for higher education over the current biennium. His budget proposal would increase funding for higher education by $212 million and includes targeted investments in higher education designed to bring new resources, focus and accountability to the state's important higher education sector. The Governor has also reintroduced a capital bonding proposal that includes investments in higher education infrastructure.

His plan provides an increase of 11.2 percent for the University of Minnesota (or $1.22 billion) and an 8.5 percent increase for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (or $1.2 billion) for the two-year period beginning July 2005.
