Goals

This is an intense, two-week, residential camp at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. Students live in college dorms and work with other Minnesota teens to produce a newspaper and other media, including podcasts and video. This camp is designed for high school students completing ninth through 12th grade this spring who have some journalism experience and want to build their skills in interviewing, research, writing, videography, photography and public presentation.

Activities

This is active learning in a real-world context with college professors and professional journalists. We create a newsroom with story assignments, lessons, mentoring and deadlines. It gives teens a chance to experience the rigor and excitement of journalism, visit newsrooms, work with many people in the field and produce work for publication. Students are assigned stories on a certain topic and assisted as they gather information, shoot video and photos, write and edit work for publication.

Program Dates

The camp will begin on Sunday, June 15, and end on Friday, June. 27. The intermediate camp lasts for 12 days.
