Goals

The goals and objectives for the Outdoor Explorers program are to; 1. Name the common mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects in Minnesota. 2. Understand predator/prey relationships. 3. Define carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. 4. Understand how human behaviors can change the dynamics of animal populations in Minnesota. 5. Define the the word stewardship and its importance 6. Participate in and understand wildlife management projects and research 7. Develop an environmental ethic 8. Understand the natural and cultural history behind wildlife management 9. Understand the concerns with non-native invasive species


Activities

Environmental education explores the science of ecosystems, plus relationships between people and their environment. We encourage participants to consider how their values and behaviors can influence and ultimately impact the world around them. Our curriculum and activities provide hands-on, memorable experiences that involve the whole person and address multiple learning styles.

Whether youre from a family of outdoor enthusiasts or just looking for an opportunity as a first-timer, this course will focus on building skills while learning about responsible outdoor practices. Students will participant in various research and stewardship projects exploring the relationships between predator and prey, human behaviors and non-native invasive species. Throughout these projects, ethics will be a central part of the discussion as well the natural and cultural history of wildlife management.
