Postsecondary Funding

 

Postsecondary education funding from the state is used to support the operation, maintenance, and construction expenses of public colleges and universities, operation of tribal colleges, student financial aid, tuition subsidies, grants to fund student services, and research. Significant variations in state funding for higher education exist across the 50 states. Nationally, and in Minnesota, funding on a per student basis has declined since 1999 as a result of both state funding cuts and rising enrollment.

• Grapevine Report on State Fiscal Support for Higher Education: The Grapevine report on state support for higher education produced annually by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO) in collaboration with Illinois State University Grapevine provides initial data on state tax support for higher education, including general fund appropriations for universities, colleges, community colleges, and state higher education agencies.
